This is the Roland G-70 driver for Microsoft® Windows® Me.
- Multiclient Support
Up to four applications can access each MIDI OUT/MIDI IN port at the same time.
- Use up to four units
Up to four G-70s can be connected to a single PC via USB.
This driver has the following requirements.
- Operating System

- A Windows® Me compatible computer with a USB port that supports USB Specification Revision 1.0 or higher

- Pentium®, Celeron, Intel-compatible Processor/200MHz or faster

- 64MB or more
* | This driver has been found to function properly when used with average computer systems that meet the specifications cited above. Be aware, however, that there are numerous other variables that can affect performance, including differences in hardware design, system configuration, and overall combinations of software applications that are used. Therefore, the actual system requirements may differ from the above. |
- On some computers, the driver is not loaded correctly if the G-70 is already connected when you start Windows. As a result, it will be impossible to use the G-70 via USB. If this occurs, switch off your computer, restart Windows, and finally switch on (or connect) the G-70.
- If the G-70 is connected when Windows is already running, the instrument may stop operating correctly when Windows enters standby or sleep mode. If this occurs, after resuming, first exit all applications that use the G-70, then switch the G-70 off and back on again.
- If the USB cable is disconnected and reconnected while the G-70 is in use, or if the G-70 is switched off and on again, it may stop operating correctly. If this occurs, exit all applications that use the G-70, then switch the G-70 off and back on again.
- If your PC needs to process a lot of data (by accessing a CD-ROM drive or a network) while the G-70 is being used, the G-70 may no longer operate correctly. If this occurs, stop sequencer playback or recording, then try starting playback or recording again. If you are still unable to play back or record, quit all programs that use the G-70, then turn the G-70 off and back on again.
- Start Windows with all USB cables disconnected.

- Exit all applications before launching the installation.
- Double-click Setupinf.exe.
- The SetupInf dialog box appears and the Ready to install the driver message is displayed.
* | If a message recommends that you restart the operating system, do as directed, then proceed to the next step. |
* | If the The driver is already installed. --- message appears, you can use a USB cable to connect the G-70 to your computer and start using it. |
* | If another message is displayed, follow the instructions given by that message. |
- Use a USB cable to connect the G-70 to your computer, then flip the G-70s POWER switch to the ON position.
- The driver is installed automatically.
- Click [OK] in the SetupInf dialog box.
* | If a message recommends that you restart the operating system, do as directed, then proceed to the next step. |
- See Before You Begin, to perform all settings required for accessing the G-70. The G-70 cannot be used unless these settings are made.
* | If the G-70 does not respond after you have connected it to your computer, see Troubleshooting. |
- Press the [MENU] button, followed by the [MIDI] field.
- On the MIDI display page, press the OUTPUT [USB] field to activate the G-70s USB port for MIDI communication.
- Press the [EXIT] button to return to the main page.
In the application(s) that you intend to use, specify the MIDI device it/they should use. (Refer to the owners manual of your application.)

- Open the Control Panel, and double-click Sounds and Multimedia.
* | If the above icon is not displayed, click view all Control Panel options. in Control Panel. |
- Click the Audio tab and in MIDI Music Playback, select Roland G-70 MIDI OUT.
- Click [OK].
- Open Windows Media Player or Media Player, select a MIDI file and play back the file.
Changing The Settings
Changing And Checking The Settings
- Before changing driver settings, be sure to quit all applications that use the G-70. This is unnecessary when you only want to check the settings.
- Open the Control Panel, and double-click Roland G-70.
* | If the above icon is not displayed, click view all Control Panel options. in Control Panel. |
- The Roland G-70 Driver Settings dialog box appears.
- Change the settings, then click [OK]. If you only wanted to view the settings in effect, be sure to click [Cancel].
- Light Load check box
- Normally, this box should not be checked.
* | The changes take effect after you switch the G-70 on/off. |
- First delete the existing driver as described in To uninstall.
- Install the driver as described in Installation.
- Start Windows with all USB cables disconnected.

- Double-click Uninstal.exe.
- The display indicates This program uninstalls the Roland G-70 USB Driver installed. Click [OK].
- The display indicates Uninstallation completed. Click [Yes]. Windows will restart.

- Was the driver installed correctly?
- If you cant use the G-70 after installing the driver, some files may not have been installed correctly. See Reinstalling The Driver.

- Is the G-70 MIDI device name displayed?
- If the device name is not displayed, exit all applications that use the G-70, then switch the G-70 off and back on again.
If this does not solve the problem, use the procedure described in Reinstalling The Driver.

- The Add New Hardware Wizard appears during the installation procedure.
- Use the following procedure to re-install the driver.

- Click [Cancel].
- Disconnect the USB cable from the G-70.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the driver as described in Installation.

- The installation according to the above procedure failed.
- It is also possible to install using the following procedure. Before doing so, however, you must delete all previously installed driver files.

- Start Windows with all USB cables disconnected.

- Exit all applications before launching the installation.
- Use a USB cable to connect the G-70 to your computer, then flip the G-70s POWER switch to the ON position.
- The Add New Hardware Wizard dialog box appears. Select Specify the location of the driver (Advanced) and click [Next].
- When the message Windows will search for new drivers in its driver database on your hard drive, --- appears, select Display a list of all the drivers in a specific location, so you can select the driver you want. and click [Next].
- When the message Select the type of device from the list below --- appears, click Sound, video and game controllers, then [Next].
- When the display asks Select the manufacturer and model of your hardware device. ---, click [Have disk].
- The Install From Disk dialog box appears. Specify the folder that contains the driver under Copy manufacturer's files from, and click [OK]. Alternatively, click [Browse] to access the Open dialog box, move to the folder that contains the driver, and click [OK]. Then click [OK].
Example) If the driver is in the Me folder of drive D, type D:\Me.
- When the Select Device dialog box appears, make sure that the Roland G-70 model is selected and click [OK].
- When the message Windows driver file search for the device appears, click [Next]. The driver files are copied. Please wait until the operation is completed.
- Click [Finish].
- See Before you begin, to perform all settings required for accessing the G-70. The G-70 cannot be used unless these settings are made.
- Was the driver installed correctly?

- Did the computer enter standby or sleep mode while the G-70 was connected and switched on?
- If the computer entered a standby or sleep mode while the G-70 was connected and switched on, it may not operate correctly. If this occurs, after resuming, first exit all applications that use the G-70, then switch the G-70 off and back on again.

- Was the USB cable disconnected and reconnected while the G-70 was in use, or did you switch the G-70 off and on again?
- If the USB cable is disconnected and reconnected while the G-70 is in use, or if the G-70 is switched off and on again, it may stop operating correctly. If this occurs, exit all applications that use the G-70, then switch the G-70 off and back on again.

- On some computers, if the G-70 is connected while Windows starts up, the driver is not loaded correctly, which may cause USB communication problems between the computer and the G-70.
- If this occurs, switch off your computer, restart Windows, and finally switch on (or connect) the G-70.
- Was the driver installed correctly?
-
- Did you make the settings mentioned in Before You begin to enable the USB driver?
- The G-70 cannot be used unless these settings are made. See Before you begin.

- Did the computer switch to standby or sleep mode during playback or recording?
- If your computer selected standby or sleep mode during playback or recording, the G-70 can no longer communicate with the system. Exit all playback or recording applications, then switch the G-70 off and back on again.

- Did you switch the G-70 on/off or disconnect/reconnect the USB cable during playback or recording?
- If you switch the G-70 on/off or disconnect/reconnect the USB cable during playback or recording, the G-70 will no longer be able to play back or record. Stop playback or recording, then start it once again. If you are still unable to play back or record, quit all programs that use the G-70, then turn the G-70 off and back on again.
- Such problems may be solved by checking the Light Load box.
- If you wish to change or verify the settings, see To change or verify settings.
